Skil 5280-1 Review
The 5280-1 comes with 15 amp sidewinder motor.
If you’re wondering if that’s enough power, I can tell you that a lot of high-end circular saws use a 15 amp motor. So you’ll have more than enough power when using this saw.
And the 5280-1 is more than capable of slicing through 2X4s, 1.5” planks and plywood, according to users.
But amps isn’t everything. The saw needs to be able to turn that power into blade speed and the 5280-1 has no problems there.
The 5280-1 uses a 7 1/4 inch blade. That’s a standard size, so you won’t have any problems finding blades for this saw. (These Skil blades are great if you need a recommendation.)
And the Skil 5280-1 has been designed to make the most use of the 7 1/4 inch blade as it can.
It’s capable of cutting at 2 7/16 inches when the saw is at a 90 degrees angle and 1 15/16 inches at a 45 degree angle.
To give you an idea of how impressive that is, consider the DeWalt DWE575SB.
The DeWalt costs twice as much as the 5280-1 and has basically the same cutting depth! That makes the 5280-1 a great bargain in my opinion 🙂
Another great feature of the Skil saw is it’s cutting laser.
If you’ve ever tried to cut a straight line with a circular saw, you know it can be a real challenge for a beginner.
The cutting laser makes the job much easier, in my opinion, because it shows you exactly where the saw is going to cut. That gives you a chance to correct a problem before it even happens!
Of course, you a rip cut guide, which also fixes the problem. But that makes using a circular saw so easy it almost feels cheating 🙂
Now, cutting 90 degree angles is probably what you’ll spend most of your time doing. But what If you want to cut an angle?
Well the 5280-1 has got you covered. You can bevel the blade up to 51 degrees.
And to make things a bit easier it has bevel stops at 0 and 45 degrees. That makes cutting on an angle quick and easy.
So what else does the 5280-1 have to help with your DIY projects?
Well, the only thing that sucks more than not having the right tool for a job is having the tool but finding that it’s broken when you go to use it. Skil solves that problem by giving you a carry case to keep your saw safe from damage.
And in the unlikely event that something does go wrong with your saw, they also give you a one year warranty.
Should I buy the Skil 5280-1?
If you’re looking for a circular saw that can help you tackle a variety of DIY projects, this is the saw you should buy.
